About Me

EG Editing 2

Who am I?

My name is Hailey, and I love stories. I wrote them when I was young. I write them now. Books are as integral to my life as sunshine and mountains. I’ll sacrifice pack weight to bring a book into the backcountry. It was perhaps fantasy that first captured my imagination, then science fiction that let it run wild. I still enjoy both today, but no one genre will hold me for very long. I have found inspiration in more stories than I can count.

“The easiest reading is damned hard writing.”  – Thomas Hood

En Garde Editing arose from my passion for helping peers—friends, writing group partners, coworkers, strangers—improve their craft and make their stories the best they can be. I received my Certification in Copy Editing from UC San Diego, Extension in order to pursue this purpose, and I continue learning through such organizations as the EFA and Editcetera. I love sharing in the journey of a story taking shape. Now, it is a journey that I want to take with you.

My mission is to help writers build confidence in their craft, to maintain the integrity of every author’s voice, to provide quality work at accessible prices, and to aid those who wish to change the world through their words.

“I was very impressed by her professional nature and thoroughness. She’s also careful that her edits don’t change the voice of the writing—my stories still sound like me, just without the errors.” – Armon Mikal, Author: The Fallen City, Like Shadows in the Night, Like Tears in Rain

You’ll typically find me with my nose buried in a book. But when I’m not reading, you might find me out on a road bike chasing Strava QOMs, searching for the next mountain peak to summit, learning watch repair, leading the local go (baduk) club, and/or enjoying a craft beer at a local microbrew (while … likely still reading). I live beneath Montana’s beautiful big sky with my equally beautiful wife and family. Our cat and two dogs wake me way too early.
